Short Can Fire Rated Downlight GU10 Tilt - Chrome - Diecast Description
Safety around the house can never be compromised – and that’s what makes Mirrorstone’s Fire Rated Short Can Tilt GU10 Chrome Downlight such a wise choice.
The GU10 base makes it compatible with all our GU10 spotlights, giving you loads of freedom as far as choices are concerned. The liberties don’t stop there either, with tilt functionality letting you angle the light wherever you need it in your choice of room.
You even get to choose what kinds of bulbs – if any – are bundled with your fire rated downlight. You’ll have a choice of 2 colour temperatures – warm white (3000K) or cool white (6000K).
The only difference between the 2 is the perceived warmth of the light given off, measured in Kelvins. Warm white helps create a really nice, cosy setting – ideal for places like the living room or bedroom. Cool white on the other hand is considerably sharper and shines with an icier shade. This is much better for areas that need to be well lit, such as the kitchen or office.
The only thing this GU10 fire rated downlight requires is a 90mm cutting hole for use. Once that’s done, you’re good to go!
If you would rather buy your own bulbs then we have a whole range of GU10 spotlights to choose from.
We would really recommend our 3.3W GU10 LED 80 SMD. It uses hardly any power – just 3.3W – yet it shines with a brightness of 400 lumens. The 50,000 hour lifespan makes it a great all round, money saving spotlight that you can’t go wrong with.
Alternatively, you could go for our 6W Dimmable GU10 LED 27 SMD. It uses a bit more energy (6W), and shines a touch brighter (450m lumens). The real draw of this spotlight though is the dimmable functionality, allowing you to adjust the level of light given off.
Please note that currently existing leading edge dimmers can’t be guaranteed to work, and could even damage the LEDs. We would strongly recommend using a trailing edge dimmer to ensure full compatibility.
Safety Comes First
Where this LED downlight really shines is with its safety benefits. It comes fire rated out of the box, though you may be wondering what exactly this means.
In normal buildings, the ceiling acts as a protective barrier that stops fires from spreading between floors.
Installing a GU10 downlight requires a hole to be cut in the ceiling – effectively punching a hole through this barrier. Even once the downlight is in place, there will still be tiny gaps between the hole and the edge of the light. These gaps can allow heat and air to pass through.
Fire rated products are made from an intumescent material however – this means that the downlight itself swells up when exposed to heat. This closes up the tiny gaps and makes your ceiling air tight – thus protecting against fires.
This protection will last up to 90 minutes, which should be more than adequate time to safely evacuate your home and for fire services to extinguish the threat.
Although fire rated products cost more than standard LED downlights, we feel that the extra money is justified due to the sheer amount of protection and safety these devices give you and your loved ones.
You can check out our wider range of GU10 downlights that we sell, if you’re after a different finish or would rather a fixed fitting. Over there you can find fire rated, IP65 fire rated, standard fittings, IP65 fittings and Short Can downlights like the one in question.
The Benefits Of LEDs
There are a lot of reasons why you should switch to LED lighting. One of them is the sheer amount of money you can save.
As mentioned above with one of our suggested spotlights, LEDs have incredible lifespans with most bulbs lasting up to 50,000 hours. This enables you to save money in 2 ways.
The first is simple – you will spend less on replacement bulbs. LEDs typically last twice as long as fluorescent lights and 20 times longer than conventional halogens. The other way is through your electricity bills. LEDs use far less energy than halogens because they are massively more efficient.
Halogen bulbs lose up to 80% of their energy to heat. LEDs on the other hand lose only 10% to heat wastage – a tenfold increase in efficiency. You don’t even have to wait long for the money saving to start – you’ll start getting a return on your investment typically within a year.
Be sure to check out our discounts and promotional codes page, where you could save up to 20% off selected products through our various offers we have running at different points in the year.
