The NeoTecline has been fully updated to deliver the absolute best that a downlight can be. With such a sturdy design, these fire rated materials have been streamlined to provide better fire protection, with a stylish appearance that looks great. The design has been revamped to include better heat dissipation, increasing the lifespan of your bulb.
Put Safety First
In most houses, the ceiling provides the barrier that prevents fires from spreading floor to floor. As this LED downlight requires a hole cut in the ceiling, this compromises the integrity of the ceiling, effectively punching a hole in this barrier.
In any other case, there would be tiny gaps between the hole and the edge of the downlight, allowing air and heat to pass through in the event of a fire.
This fixed downlight is fire rated though, meaning that the downlight is made from an intumescent material that swells as it gets hotter – filling the gaps in the hole becoming air tight.
This protection will last for approximately 90 minutes – which is more than enough time for you to safely evacuate your property and for emergency fire services to extinguish the blaze.
Generally, fire rated products cost a little bit more than standard downlights, but the extra money is worth paying when the safety of you and your family is concerned.
Customisable Just For You
There are a couple of bits you can change to perfect your fire rated downlight for what you need.
You can opt to have dimmable bulbs with your downlight, though this will also require a trailing edge dimmer. Leading edge dimmers can’t be guaranteed to work, and may even damage your LED bulbs.
The other option you have is a choice of 2 colour temperatures – warm white (3000K) or cool white (6000K).
The difference is simply the perceived warmth of the light. Warm light is best for cosy environments such as the living room or bedroom. It closely replicates the kind of light given off by traditional incandescent bulbs.
Cool white is much better suited to rooms that need to be well lit, such as the kitchen or office. This is because of its brighter and more penetrative light.
For more freedom, you could also go for a dimmable bulb. For this, we would recommend our 6W Dimmable GU10 LED 27 SMD. With a slightly brighter maximum of 450 lumens, this spotlight will also keep going for up to 50,000 hours. As mentioned before though, dimmable bulbs will require a trailing edge dimmer, as leading edge dimmers could damage the LED itself.
A great option for this would be Varilight’s 1 Gang 2 Way LED Dimmer. Available in 9 different finishes, it also comes with a variety of capacity choices depending on how many bulbs you want to use it with. This makes it ideal for both domestic and commercial use.
Very good quality, much better than others I've encountered which are similarly priced.
Personally I think a 65mm hole cut out is too tight to allow for the connector block, rivets and butterfly springs to pass through the hole without damage, especially in older lath & plaster ceilings. I almost destroyed the springs when they caught on the laths so it took two of us to get the lights through the holes (1 pushing up from below & myself up in the attic making sure the springs weren't getting caught).
