LED strip lights are such versatile products. They’re an excellent solution to your mood lighting needs, whilst providing incredible flexibility.
As you might expect then, we get asked a lot of questions – a lot of them related to cutting.
That’s why we’ve prepared this guide that will tell you everything you need to know about cutting your LED tape.
Yes. All of our LED tapes can be cut.
This depends on the type of LED tape you have. The cutting intervals are as follows:
Different types may differ slightly from this though, for example our RGBW tape has 60 LEDs per metre but can only be cut every 10cm due to the arrangement of the LEDs.
These cutting lengths are also doubled for 24V tape too.
Simply put – very easy. It just involves using a normal pair of scissors, and cutting across the designated cut point. Honestly, it’s that easy. You just need to be careful not to cut outside of these cutting points.
Cutting points are marked by a thin line, with a set of metallic solder points either side. There’s also a small picture of a pair of scissors along the lines too.
As detailed earlier, cutting points are at even intervals along the length of the strip. In most cases, they will be located every 3 LEDs.
You can, but we wouldn’t recommend it. By cutting an LED strip light anywhere other than the designated cutting point, you run the risk of damaging the components on the strip itself, as well as the circuit board. This may ultimately result in the strip light not working.
If you don’t feel confident cutting your own LED tape, we can do it for you. We offer up to 5 cuts for free, all you need to do is send us your measurements, or give us a call to discuss them.
You can solder separate pieces of LED tape together. We are aware though that not everyone knows how to solder, or has a soldering iron handy.
That’s why we now offer a range of solderless connectors for our strip lights, available in 3528, 5050 and RGB options. These can be used to connect two lengths of strip directly to one another, end on end.
The corner connectors we sell allow you to create a right-angle out of two pieces of LED tape.
Unfortunately we can’t accept returns on made-to-measure items. The simple reason is that if we have cut your LED strip lights cut to a specific length, it is nearly impossible for us to resell that item (unless there is the off chance that someone else is looking for a piece of tape of exactly the same length!).
