Under the LED ceiling lights, we stock an extensive range of GU10 LED downlights, standard and fire rated that are the perfect lighting option to update the look and feel of your home.

They are compatible with our entire range of GU10 LED bulbs. A key feature is that our fire rated units are manufactured to offer 90 minutes protection in the event of a fire.

Why GU10 LED Downlights

As the name suggest GU10 light fittings are a downlight fitting designed to take a dimmable or non-dimmable GU10 spotlight that shine their light in a predominantly downward direction.

Downlights are a completely flush fitting and it is necessary to cut a hole into your ceiling to accommodate the fitting. The benefit of this is that the fitting is less prominent creating a more modern, streamline appearance. They are suitable for various rooms types from bathroom, bedroom or kitchen.

The Importance Of Fire Ratings

In many instances it is necessary to purchase your GU10 LED downlights in a fire rated unit. Fire rated units are required by law in new builds and extensions, but it is also highly advised to install fire rated fittings in other areas of your home as well.

The main reason for this is that they offer additional safety in the event of a fire. Ceilings are actually fire barriers designed to stop fire spreading from one room to the next. If you cut a hole in your ceiling, fire can pass through the hole and into your ceiling void, spreading to other areas of your home.

Fire rated downlights include an intumescent material that expands under extreme heat. When it expands, it fills the hole and prevents the fire from spreading into the ceiling cavity. Our downlights offer 90 minutes protection, ample time for the fire services to reach your home and extinguish the flames.

Choosing A GU10 Fitting

Now that you've decided to purchase a GU10 fitting, you may be wondering which to actually buy because you have standard, fire rated, IP65 or Short Can. The first consideration is the finish. The finish refers to the appearance of the besel.

Our GU10 downlights are currently available in 4 main finishes: white, polished chrome, satin chrome and brass. White is a popular choice for customers who aren't looking for contrast between their fittings and the ceiling. Amongst best sellers white downlights we have the Short Can GU10 Downlight.

However, polished chrome and satin chrome are perfect for turning the fittings into a feature piece and will match the look and finish of the other decorative fixtures in the room, such as your light switches and sockets.

You will also notice that some of our fittings are pressed steel and some are die-cast. Put simply, this refers to the way the fittings are built. Pressed steel are cheaper and the bulb is held in place with a spring clip. Die-cast are more expensive, but are a better quality build. The bulb is held in place with a twist, lock besel, making them much easier to change.

Considering all the finishes described above we have an extensive range of bathroom downlights, bedroom and kitchen fittings. Apart from that, we also offer our clients a selection of dimmable LED downlights.

The final consideration is whether you want the fitting fixed or tilt. Tilt fittings allow you to tilt the bulb up to 20 degree left or right and allows you more control over the direction of the light. They are particularly effective for feature lighting, such as highlighting a picture on the wall.

Remember, GU10 LED downlights are mains voltage as standard and there is no need to buy a separate LED driver. You will also need to pay close attention to the height of the fitting and the size of the cut hole required to make sure your ceiling can accommodate the fitting.
