What Power Supply Do I Need?

An important consideration when installing low voltage lighting is the load on the power supply. This determines the maximum combined wattage that can be added to the power supply. Exceeding this maximum load can cause damage to the driver.

Calculating the load on the circuit is relatively straightforward. All you need to do is take the wattage of the bulb and multiply it by the number of bulbs on the circuit. In the case of LED Tape this will mean taking the number of metres and multiplying by the wattage per metre. We then recommend adding on an extra 10% just to be safe,

For example, if you have 10m of one of our 9.6W tapes, you’ll need a driver that has a maximum load of at 106W. Our 150W range of EasiLight drivers would be perfect in this case!

Once you’ve picked the right wattage, you’ll need to select the right driver for your lighting goals. For example, if you have a single colour strip, there’s no point choosing an RGBW driver! Likewise, if your have RGBW lights, using a single colour driver would be wasting all that potential.
